Introduction to Character Animation
Rafael Cano Méndez "Rafiki"
An animator is an actor with a pencil, though nowadays more likely with a mouse. The skills that a character animator needs are the same irrespective of the software or techniques used. Notions such as 'blocking', 'timing', 'squash and stretch'...are indispensable to breathing life into your characters, the hardest thing to convey to the spectator.
In this four-hour workshop, using Adobe Flash as a practical tool, we will look at the most essential means of achieving good results in the animation of a character.
We will try to apply the basic principles of animation in practical exercises, and little by little we will try to assimilate the most important aspect of all: PLANNING.
Ideally the participants in the workshop will be familiar with the software. It is not necessary to know how to program or to be an expert, but simply to know how to use an interface (paintbrushes, symbols, frames...).
Flash may not be the perfect tool for animating, but it does give you the advantage over all the other ones: immediacy. Now all you need is a story to tell.
